GENSAN-PROFILE
GENERAL SANTOS CITY, also known as GenSan, is an integral part of the newly realigned Region of SOCKSARGEN (Region 12) in south Philippines. Considered as the economic and financial center of the region, GenSan is the country’s gateway to BIMP-EAGA (Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, and Malaysia) that has a market base of over 45 million and Australia’s Norhern Territory. It is located within 3 to 4-hour flying time from major capitals of the ASEAN region.
One of the city’s development thrusts is to develop the industry sector of the city. With a vision that builds on the city’s competitive edge as one of the major player in the BIMP-EAGA Growth Region, the city will go beyond strengthening the tuna industry and improve the city’s position as the agro-industrial center, trade and transport hub of the south.
Being a vibrant and entrepreneurial city, GenSan has continued to embrace the idea of economic diversification by allowing transformation from purely agricultural to agro- industrial and finally, the services sector. Recognizing the huge opportunities that the service sector brings, GenSan has taken new leap in economic development by tapping information and Communications Technology (ICT) Services as shining industry under the services sector. Tapping these opportunities, it has mobilized its resources towards the declaration of the city as one of the ICT hubs in the country today.
Adding value to the city’s competitive advantages such as: (1) the availability of skilled human resource pool. (2) quality infrastructure, (3) low cost of doing business. (4) business- friendly environment, (5) quality lifestyle, and (6), favorable climate condition. Further dynamic and well-spirited entrepreneurial endeavor has driven the development of the first PEZA-registered IT park to be established in the heart of the city – the Mabuhay I.T. Park (MITP). MITP is set to ease the entry of ICT and IT & IT-enabled services investments in GenSan.
